6th Grade Choir
Students in 6th grade choir will begin developing the skills needed to perform and understand music at a higher level. Members in this group participate in three formal concerts each school year and are expected to attend all of them as well as rehearsals. In addition, students are exposed to various genres of music such as jazz/swing, spirituals, multi-cultural pieces, and repertoire in foreign languages.
6th grade choir members will begin developing fundamental skills for singing such as:
- Breath support
- Correct posture
- Diction (vowels and consonants)
- Using Solfege syllables and hand signs to perform a major scale
6th grade choir members will begin developing fundamental skills for singing in a group such as:
- Blending within a section in unison or two-part music
- Finding balance within their section in two-part music
- Demonstrating their voice part independently while singing alone and with others
6th grade choir members will begin developing fundamental skills for reading music such as:
- Identifying treble and bass clef pitches by name
- Identifying tempo markings
- Identifying time signatures
- Identifying and defining specific note and rest values
- Identifying music symbols within a piece of music
6th grade choir members will begin developing fundamental skills for singing such as:
