7th Grade Choir
Students in 7th grade choir continue to build on the music literacy skills and techniques acquired in 6th grade to participate in a higher level vocal ensemble. One of the main objectives of this group is to achieve intonation, balance, and blend within their sections as well as within the group. In addition, students are exposed to various genres of music such as jazz/swing, spirituals, multi-cultural pieces, and repertoire in foreign languages.
Members in this group participate in three formal concerts a year and are expected to attend each one as well as weekly rehearsals.
7th grade choir members will continue developing skills for proper vocal production including:
- Distinguishing between singing in their head voice, chest voice, or falsetto
- Demonstrating proper breathing within the ensemble
- Singing in tune
7th grade choir members will continue developing skills for singing within an ensemble by:
- Blending within their section as well as the entire group
- Demonstrating balance among parts in both two and three-part pieces
7th grade choir members will continue developing skills for reading music such as:
- Using solfege syllables and hand signs to sight-read short excerpts within an ensemble
- Identifying more difficult rhythms within different time signatures
- Identifying and defining more difficult tempo markings within a piece of music
